How to Motivate By Being A Leader
It’s known that one person is usually a leader and most are just followers. Some people may think that they can’t be leaders because they don’t have the right personality or feel they don’t have any leadership skills.
Leaders are mostly outgoing people who aren’t afraid to speak their mind, but those who are shy and quiet can become great leaders too. It’s really a matter of knowing what people want and how to motivate them, even though it might not be that easy.
Motivating people can be difficult because it mainly has to do with a person’s personality. You will notice many different quirks, personalities, and unconventional behavior when you work with a group of people. Therefore, you may need to juggle many different duties. You may want to do what you can to please everyone and end up not pleasing anybody.
When you’re working with a lot of people at once, try avoiding show everyone that you’re meeting their individual needs. Although this may appear counterintuitive, by appearing to be a people pleaser, you can make yourself look like an idiot who can survive only on the approval of others.
Also, keep this in mind that you simply can’t please everybody. No matter how hard you try, you can never make something turn out the way you want it, and you can never get a perfect end product. Its reality and you have to accept it in order to be a good leader.
Another thing, don’t dwell on your mistakes, learn from them instead. You won’t be able to move ahead without letting go of the past. Rather than wasting your time thinking and pondering over what you did wrong or what you could have done right, just get past it and move along.
Furthermore, don’t be afraid to show some anger and emotion. You can’t be happy and smiling all the time. If you’re mad at your group, be firm and let them know. Leaders aren’t afraid to voice how they fell and let them know they’ve done something wrong and you’re disappointed in their work.
Last but not least, prepare rewards for your members. Promise a treat at a nearby restaurant if you all make a quota or get the job done. This way, you can all celebrate together, and you effectively show your team that they are appreciated and that it was a group effort. It’s not too difficult to be a leader. Anyone can do it.
